Songwriting sets this girl free. She lays her mind out on the chords in the hopes that the music might allow another person permission to experience their own humanity in a new way.
While Brittany spent much of her childhood pitching hay to cows after a day of school and a rigorous basketball practice, she was also performing since the age of four with her family At the age of eleven, she began acting and writing her own music, and at the age of 13, her father made her choose (and stick with) a musical instrument. Today, she and her sister make their living as actor-musicians in NYC!
Acting since the age of 11, there is nothing so delicious to Brittany as sharing a character's experience with an audience.
Britt adores Shakespeare's verse, relishes children's theater and comedy, and is most adept at bringing an audience right in to what she is feeling. She has no fear, only guts when it comes to performing. It's possibly the crazy the gemini and romantic country girl in her.
A few times a year, she pulls together the best musicians she knows and shares the original works hiding in her poetry book at home. It's intimate, transparent, goofy, and always extremely human. Are you brave enough to get real with this Joni-Mitchell-wanna-be?
Not only does Britt play as a singer-songwriter, but is also freakishly lucky to be related to Kendra Jo Brook. This young woman has created THREE bands that perform throughout NYC as often as possible. Brittany plays lead rhythm guitar for the all-female band The Snowy Mountain Sisters, The East River Ramblers, and The Brook Sisters. If you want to travel back to the roots of traditional folk music, than you need these bands in your life!
Kendra Jo and Brittany grew up playing music with their family band in the farm hills of Judith Gap, MT. Now they are make their living as actor-musicians in NYC and love to share the music of their roots from the subway platforms to theatre houses to bluegrass venues alike.
Kendra is the founder and manager of the three bands that embody her favorite style: The Brook Sisters, The Snowy Mountain Sisters, and the East River Ramblers. Come out to dance, clap, sing, and smile: it’s strings on fire and melody full of heart!
It was through Musical Theater and gigging with bands across the city that Britt's sister, Kendra Jo, met and collected this group of brassy, classy, and wildly talented women. They played one gig together for the purpose of joining a club, but quickly realized that something special had been formed. Two years later, The Snowy Mountain Sisters are going strong with a growing infamy among bluegrass and country music circles!
The East River Ramblers:
On the 3rd Monday of every month, Bar9 in Hell's Kitchen plays host to an alternating group of musicians – Kendra Jo's top picks among NYC's bluegrass pickers! It's a wild-west two hours!
